Continue southeast past Maketu and along Town Point Road, down the headland and onto Newdicks Road. Pay the road toll to local Maori and drive down to the beach below. Features:Newdicks Beach is a very sheltered surf break during the dreaded blustery northwest wind, which ruins the rest of the coast for waves. On the north end there is a rocky outcrop or slight headland where left-handers peel down. It is clean in a straight northerly wind. Further south are some big, exposed rocks where good left and right peaks ledge up and the waves have plenty of power. Mostly uncrowded, but weekends can get busy; however, there are more breaks south towards Little Waihi Beach.
