Curried Dogfish

Ingrediants:

  • 500 grams dogfish fillets (ling can also be used).
  • 1 small onion, diced.
  • 2 tablespoons cornflour.
  • 2 tablespoons butter.
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste.
  • 1 cup milk.
  • 1 hard-boiled egg, sliced.
  • ½ cup parsley, loosely chopped.

Directions:

  • Dice onion and sauté until soft.
  • Add curry powder, cornflour and seasoning to make a roux.
  • Gradually stir in milk and cook slowly until mixture thickens.
  • Cut dogfish into bite-sized pieces and add to curry.
  • Simmer until fish is cooked.
  • Garnish with slices of boiled egg and sprinkle over with parsley.
 

 

Sharks
Sharks Ever wondered where the name ‘shark and tatties’ originated? The answer is simple: for many years takeaway shops used ‘lemon fish’ or ‘doggie shark’, the common names for spotted dogfish or rig, as the species of choice for their fish and chips.
Shark was easily caught and inexpensive, and incidentally made great fish and chips, battered and served with a squeeze of lemon.
