Continue south from Awakino on SH3, through Mokau towards Tongaporutu. Just before Tongaporutu, turn right to the ocean on River View Terrace for a great overview of the coast and the break below. Features:Plenty of options for waves, but only on small-swell days and light, offshore winds or glassy conditions. It's a very isolated, exposed length of coastline and gets very wind affected. At the south end is a good left bar set-up which produces hollow, fast-breaking waves, but can be affected by the tidal flow and is best surfed on the low incoming. Expect average beach breaks to the north along Sea View Terrace. It will never be crowded.
