SpotX offroad (19.1)
Maps:Topo250 maps 1 & 2.
Grade:1. Easy driving, no rough terrain, vehicle could get dusty, road tyres, novice drivers.
Access:Follow the signs in Ahipara to Ninety Mile Beach, turn into Kaka Street, follow to the end and turn right onto the beach.
Features:Trivia: the beach is not actually 90-miles long. Use four hours after high tide, cross the sudden watercourses slowly and avoid the waves. Sand can be soft in places. Respect other beach users. Take some boogie boards to surf the dunes up at Te Paki Stream - don't drive on them. If you add a strop up to the lighthouse at Cape Reinga, it could turn into a weekend jaunt.
Accommodation:Holiday parks, campgrounds, hotels, lodges, motels and more in Kaitaia, Awanui, Ahipara and Houhora.
