Suitable:2 vehicles Access:Mangaoporo Road is signposted to the west off SH35, about 7km north of Ruatoria, which is about 135km north of Gisborne on the East Cape. Features:A good gravel road to start, deteriorating to single-track dirt road to the north. In places rough, improvised repairs have been made following severe washouts. You have the opportunity to drive the riverbed; however, be warned that this river section is not a solo adventure and a minimum of two vehicles are required if you enter the river.
