They are not held in any regard as a sport fish, even on light tackle. Once hooked cod have a propensity to spin, so good quality swivels should always feature in your rigs.
Cod taken from colder southern waters seem to have a better taste than those caught ‘up north’ – that is what any South Islander will tell you anyhow, and they may well be right.
Regardless of where it is caught, cod is a fantastic eating fish. It has a subtle flavour that needs little enhancement. The flesh is clear and white, making it appealing on the plate.
